Zebra Angel Fish (Pterophyllum scalare) is a captivating freshwater angelfish, known for its graceful fins and bold black and silver stripes. Our zebra angelfish for sale can grow to around 15cm long and even taller from fin tip to fin tip, and their elegant shape adds real presence to a larger aquarium.
Location
Originating from the Amazon River basin, angelfish live in slow flowing waters with plenty of plant life. They prefer warm, slightly acidic water, which mirrors the conditions of their native environment in South America. The zebra pattern is a captive bred colour form.
Diet
This species is omnivorous, eating a balanced diet of high quality flake foods, pellets, and occasional live or frozen foods such as bloodworms, brine shrimp, and daphnia. A varied diet ensures their health and vibrancy.
Care
Relatively easy to care for, Zebra Angel Fish prefer water temperatures between 24 and 30°C and a tall tank to suit their shape. They are generally peaceful, but adults will eat small fish such as neon tetras, so choose tank mates that are too large to swallow, and avoid fin nippers.
Habitat
In the wild, they inhabit slow flowing rivers and streams, often surrounded by plants. Recreate these conditions in the aquarium by providing tall live plants, gentle filtration, and soft substrate.
Breeding
Angelfish form pairs, and the female lays eggs on flat surfaces like broad leaves, slate or glass. Both parents guard the eggs until they hatch into fry, although young pairs may eat their first few spawns.
