Tangerine Orange Shrimp (Neocaridina davidi), also known as orange sakura shrimp, are a vibrant and popular choice for freshwater aquariums. Known for their bright orange colouration, our orange shrimp for sale add a pop of colour to any tank while also helping to maintain a clean environment by feeding on algae, biofilm and detritus.

Location

The orange colour form is captive bred, but its wild ancestor, Neocaridina davidi, comes from freshwater streams in Taiwan and China. Tangerine Orange Shrimp thrive in stable water conditions. In aquariums, they prefer environments that replicate their natural habitat, with clean, well oxygenated water and surfaces to graze on.

Diet

Tangerine Orange Shrimp are primarily detritivores, feeding on algae, biofilm, and decaying organic matter. They will also consume leftover food in the tank. To keep them healthy and vibrant, supplement their diet with high quality shrimp pellets, algae wafers, and blanched vegetables such as spinach or courgette.

Care

These shrimp require stable water conditions with a temperature range of 22°C to 28°C and a pH of 6.5 to 7.5. Regular water changes are important to keep them healthy. Avoid using medications containing copper, as copper can be toxic to shrimp.

Habitat

To create an ideal habitat for Tangerine Orange Shrimp, use a soft substrate like sand or fine gravel. Incorporating live plants, rocks, and driftwood will provide surfaces for grazing and hiding spots. These shrimp prefer low current, so ensure your filtration system is gentle.

Breeding

Breeding Tangerine Orange Shrimp in an aquarium is relatively simple when kept in optimal conditions. Females will carry their eggs beneath their abdomen until they hatch into tiny, independent shrimp, which will begin foraging right away.
