Sterbai Corydoras

Sterbai Corydoras (Corydoras sterbai), also known as Sterba’s corydoras or the sterbai cory, are one of the most popular armoured catfish in the freshwater hobby. Our sterbai cory for sale grow to around 6cm, and their striking white spots on a dark body, bright orange fins and gentle nature make them an excellent addition to peaceful community aquariums.

Location

These fish originate from the upper Rio Guaporé in South America, where they inhabit slow-moving tributaries and areas with sandy or muddy riverbeds. Their natural environment is warm, soft, and well-oxygenated.

Diet

Sterbai Corydoras are bottom-feeding omnivores. Offer a balanced diet of sinking pellets, algae wafers, and frozen or live foods such as bloodworms and daphnia. They also enjoy scavenging leftover food from the tank floor.

Care

These catfish prefer water temperatures between 24°C and 28°C and thrive in soft, slightly acidic to neutral water. Use fine sand or smooth substrate to protect their sensitive barbels. Regular water changes are important for their well-being.

Habitat

Keep Sterbai Corydoras in groups of at least six to encourage their social and active behaviour. They appreciate planted tanks with hiding spots made from driftwood or smooth rocks, along with ample open areas for foraging.

Breeding

To encourage spawning, simulate rainy season conditions by lowering the temperature slightly and increasing water changes. Females will lay adhesive eggs, usually on tank glass or broad leaves. Separate eggs to avoid predation.
