Sakura Cherry Shrimp are a vibrant and attractive addition to any freshwater aquarium, known for their bright red colouration. Our cherry shrimp for sale are hardy and easy to keep, and help maintain a clean tank by feeding on algae, detritus and organic waste, making them both decorative and functional.
Location
Sakura cherry shrimp are a selectively bred, higher grade form of the red cherry shrimp (Neocaridina davidi), whose wild ancestors come from streams in Taiwan and southern China. They thrive in clean, stable water conditions. In an aquarium setting, they prefer environments that replicate their natural habitat, with clear water and ample surfaces for grazing.
Diet
Sakura Cherry Shrimp are detritivores, feeding on algae, biofilm, and decaying plant matter. They will also scavenge leftover food in the tank. To ensure they remain healthy and vibrant, supplement their diet with high quality shrimp pellets, algae wafers, and blanched vegetables such as spinach or courgette.
Care
These shrimp require stable water conditions, with a temperature range of 22°C to 28°C and a pH of 6.5 to 7.5. Regular water changes are important for maintaining their health. Avoid using copper-based medications, as copper is toxic to shrimp.
Habitat
To create an ideal habitat for Sakura Cherry Shrimp, use a soft substrate like sand or fine gravel. Adding live plants, driftwood, and rocks will provide grazing surfaces and hiding spots. These shrimp prefer low water current, so ensure your filtration system provides a gentle flow.
Breeding
Breeding Sakura Cherry Shrimp is relatively easy when kept in optimal conditions. Females carry their eggs under their abdomen until they hatch into tiny shrimp, which immediately start foraging on biofilm and detritus.
