Purple Zebra Danio

Purple Zebra Danio (Danio rerio) is a vibrant and eye catching colour form of the popular zebra danio. Known for its striking purple hue, this fish brings a splash of colour and energy to any aquarium, making it a favourite among aquarists. Our purple zebra danios for sale are hardy, active and grow to around 5cm.

Location

The Purple Zebra Danio is native to South Asia, found in streams, rivers and rice paddies across India, Bangladesh and Nepal. They thrive in warm, tropical waters with gentle currents.

Diet

This species is omnivorous and enjoys a varied diet. Feed them high quality flakes or pellets along with occasional live or frozen foods such as daphnia, brine shrimp, and bloodworms for added nutrition.

Care

The Purple Zebra Danio prefers water temperatures between 22 and 28°C. They are hardy and easy to care for, making them suitable for beginner aquarists. As peaceful fish, they do well in community tanks with other similar sized species. Keep them in groups of six or more.

Habitat

In the wild, these fish are found in slow flowing streams with dense vegetation. Replicate this environment by providing your aquarium with plenty of plants, fine gravel, and gentle filtration for optimal living conditions.

Breeding

The Purple Zebra Danio is an egg layer. Breeding is relatively easy in the aquarium, as they will scatter their eggs on the substrate or plants. Remove the adults after breeding to prevent them from eating the eggs.
