Mixed Female Betta Fish (Betta splendens), also known as female fighter fish, are an elegant and colourful option for aquarists looking to add variety to their tanks. Known for their calmer temperament compared to males, our female betta fish for sale come in a mix of colours and patterns, grow to around 5 to 6cm, and suit community aquariums or sorority groups.
Location
Originally from Southeast Asia, these freshwater fish are commonly found in rice paddies and slow flowing streams. Today, they are bred in captivity worldwide to enhance colour diversity and fin shapes.
Diet
Mainly carnivorous, they enjoy a balanced diet of pellets, flakes, and frozen or live treats like daphnia and bloodworms. This variety supports vibrant colours and overall health.
Care
Female bettas are hardy and easy to maintain. They thrive in water temperatures between 24 and 28°C with gentle filtration. Keep tank conditions stable and avoid placing them with fin nipping or overly aggressive species. For a sorority, keep five or more females together in a larger, well planted tank with plenty of hiding places, and never add a male.
Habitat
A planted aquarium with low water flow, hiding spots, and smooth decorations provides an ideal environment. Floating plants can also help mimic their natural habitat and reduce stress.
Breeding
Breeding requires controlled conditions. Introduce a conditioned pair to a separate tank, monitor interactions closely, and remove the female after spawning. Fry should be raised with proper nutrition and frequent water changes.
