Golden Ram Cichlid

Golden Ram Cichlid (Mikrogeophagus ramirezi) is a small, colourful freshwater fish known for its striking gold colouration with flashes of blue. Location

The ram is native to the slow flowing rivers and wetlands of the Orinoco River basin in Venezuela and Colombia, where it thrives in warm, soft, and slightly acidic waters. The golden colour form is captive bred.

Diet

This species is omnivorous and thrives on a varied diet. Offer high quality sinking pellets, along with occasional live or frozen foods like bloodworms, brine shrimp, and daphnia.

Care

The Golden Ram Cichlid prefers warm water between 26 and 30°C and is sensitive to poor water quality, so add it to a mature, settled tank. While peaceful, it can be territorial during breeding, so it’s best to house them with other calm species and provide plenty of hiding spots.

Habitat

In their native environment, these cichlids are found in slow flowing waters with soft, slightly acidic water and abundant vegetation. Replicate this in the aquarium by using fine substrates, live plants, and gentle filtration.

Breeding

Golden Ram Cichlids pair up and require stable water conditions for breeding. They spawn on flat surfaces such as rocks or leaves, and the parents are excellent caretakers of their young.

We take care to ensure your order arrives in excellent condition and ready to settle into your aquarium. All orders are shipped with tracking, and the cut-off time for same-day dispatch is 4 pm.

Orders containing dry goods, shrimp, snails or plants are dispatched Monday to Friday via Royal Mail for fast, reliable delivery. Livestock, in particular live fish and invertebrates, are dispatched Monday to Wednesday only, using an approved overnight courier, to avoid weekend delays and ensure safe and timely delivery.

Track Your Order

You will receive a tracking number by email when we begin processing your order for shipping. The selected courier will provide updates on delivery only through their tracking page.

During colder weather, heat packs are added when needed. Livestock orders are carefully packed in insulated boxes to help maintain a stable temperature throughout transit.
