Ember Tetra (Hyphessobrycon amandae) is a small, colourful fish popular for its vibrant orange red hue. Our ember tetras for sale grow to only around 2cm, and this peaceful species is ideal for nano and community aquariums, adding a lively splash of colour to any tank.
Location
Native to the Araguaia river basin in Brazil, the Ember Tetra thrives in slow flowing waters with warm temperatures. Aquariums that mimic its natural habitat, featuring soft water and plenty of plants, are perfect for this species.
Diet
As omnivores, they enjoy a varied diet. They readily accept high quality flake foods, pellets, and live or frozen offerings like brine shrimp. A varied diet supports their health and vibrant colours.
Care
Ember Tetras prefer water temperatures between 22 and 28°C and slightly acidic to neutral pH levels. Keep them in groups of eight or more. Ensuring proper filtration and regular water changes is essential, as they are sensitive to water quality.
Habitat
This species thrives in well planted aquariums with soft water and plenty of hiding spots, such as driftwood and rocks. They enjoy peaceful environments and should be housed with other small, peaceful species. Ember tetras are generally safe with adult shrimp, although they may eat very small shrimplets.
Breeding
Breeding Ember Tetras is possible in a well maintained aquarium. They lay their eggs in fine leaved plants, and the parents should be removed to protect the eggs from being eaten. With the right care, breeding is achievable.
