Like all crystal shrimp, they need soft, slightly acidic water to thrive.
Location
Crystal Red Shrimp were first selectively bred in Japan in the 1990s from the wild bee shrimp of southern China. They thrive in stable water conditions. In aquariums, they prefer a clean, well-maintained environment that mimics their natural habitat.
Diet
Crystal Red Bee Shrimp are primarily detritivores, meaning they feed on decomposing organic matter, algae, and biofilm. They will also eat leftover food in the aquarium. Supplementing their diet with high quality shrimp pellets, algae wafers, or blanched vegetables will keep them healthy and vibrant.
Care
Crystal Red Bee Shrimp require stable water conditions, with a temperature range of 20°C to 24°C and soft, slightly acidic water with a pH of 5.8 to 6.8. They are more sensitive than cherry shrimp, so small, regular water changes are essential to maintain the health of these shrimp. Avoid using medications containing copper, as copper is toxic to them.
Habitat
To create the ideal habitat for Crystal Red Bee Shrimp, use an active aquarium soil, which keeps the water soft and slightly acidic. Incorporating live plants, driftwood, and rocks provides grazing surfaces and hiding spots. They also enjoy a tank with low current, so avoid powerful filtration systems that could stress them.
Breeding
Breeding Crystal Red Shrimp is very rewarding when water conditions are soft and stable. Females carry their eggs under their abdomen for around 30 days until they hatch into tiny shrimp, which are independent and immediately begin foraging.
