Chocolate Mystery Snail is a beautiful freshwater snail known for its deep brown shell and active scavenging behaviour. Its unique colour and peaceful nature make it a favourite among aquarists looking to add contrast and cleanliness to planted aquariums. Also known as the brown mystery snail, our chocolate mystery snails grow to around 5cm. Of all the mystery snail colours, chocolate is one of the richest.
Location
Native to South American freshwater habitats, the Chocolate Mystery Snail is commonly found in calm rivers and ponds. In captivity, they do well in aquariums that mimic their natural environment with gentle currents and plenty of vegetation.
Diet
They consume soft algae, leftover food, and decaying organic matter. To keep them healthy, supplement their diet with algae wafers, blanched vegetables like cucumber or spinach, and foods rich in calcium to maintain strong shells.
Care
Optimal care includes water temperatures between 22 and 28°C and a pH range of 7.0 to 8.0. These snails are sensitive to copper, so avoid treatments containing it. Clean water and consistent parameters help ensure their wellbeing.
Habitat
Aquariums with fine gravel or sand substrates, hiding spots, and plenty of surface area support their natural behaviour. The Chocolate Mystery Snail enjoys climbing plants, decorations, and even the aquarium glass, making them fun to observe.
