Bumblebee Goby (Brachygobius spp.) is a striking fish species recognised for its distinctive black and yellow striped pattern, resembling a bumblebee. Our bumblebee gobies for sale grow to only around 3 to 4cm, and this small, colourful fish is popular among aquarists for its character and unique appearance, making it a great choice for nano and species tanks.
Location
Native to Southeast Asia, the Bumblebee Goby is commonly found in brackish water environments in areas like Thailand, Indonesia, and Malaysia. They thrive in slow flowing rivers, streams, and coastal areas where fresh and saltwater mix.
Diet
As carnivores, Bumblebee Gobies thrive on live or frozen foods such as brine shrimp, bloodworms, and daphnia. Some will learn to take high quality sinking pellets, but most prefer live and frozen foods.
Care
These gobies prefer water temperatures between 24 and 28°C and do well in fresh or slightly brackish water. They can be territorial with each other, so provide plenty of caves and keep them in a group of six or more, either in a species tank or with other small, peaceful fish. They are suitable for aquariums with gentle filtration and moderate water flow.
Habitat
In their natural habitat, Bumblebee Gobies live in calm, shallow waters with plenty of hiding spots and a soft substrate. To replicate their environment in captivity, provide live plants, fine gravel, and low water movement for a comfortable habitat.
Breeding
Breeding Bumblebee Gobies in captivity is uncommon, but they are egg layers. If successful, the male guards the fertilised eggs until they hatch. Creating stable water conditions is essential for breeding success.
