Borneo Sucker Hillstream Loach is a unique and attractive hillstream loach known for its flat, spotted body and peaceful nature. Our hillstream loaches for sale grow to around 6cm and use their sucker mouth to cling to rocks and glass in fast water, making them a fascinating addition to any tank.
Location
Native to the rivers and hill streams of Borneo, the Borneo Sucker Loach lives in fast flowing, clear and well oxygenated water, clinging to smooth rocks covered in algae.
Diet
The Borneo Sucker Loach is primarily herbivorous, feeding on algae, plant matter, and detritus. It will graze on algae in the aquarium, but it also enjoys sinking pellets, vegetable matter, and occasional live foods. A balanced diet ensures the loach remains healthy and active in your aquarium.
Care
This loach prefers neutral water with temperatures between 20°C and 24°C, strong water flow and plenty of oxygen. A mature tank with established algae and biofilm is ideal, along with regular water changes, as they are sensitive to poor water quality. They also appreciate a well planted tank to provide hiding spots and resting areas.
Habitat
The Borneo Sucker Loach requires plenty of hiding places, such as caves and plants, as well as open areas to forage for food. It is peaceful and does well in community tanks with other non-aggressive fish. Smooth rocks, pebbles and a strong current will suit this species best.
Breeding
Breeding Borneo Sucker Loaches in captivity is difficult, as they require specific water conditions and a suitable environment. They are egg scatterers, and while breeding has been reported in aquariums, it is rare and often requires careful attention to water quality and tank conditions.
