Blue Diamond Shrimp are a stunning blue shrimp for any freshwater aquarium, known for their striking, even blue colouration. Our blue diamond shrimp for sale grow to around 2.5 to 3cm, and they are not only beautiful but also beneficial, as they help maintain a clean tank by feeding on algae, detritus, and organic waste.

Location

Blue Diamond Shrimp are a selectively bred colour form of Neocaridina davidi, whose wild ancestors come from Taiwan and southern China. They thrive in clean, stable water conditions. They do well in aquariums that replicate their natural habitat, with clear water and surfaces for grazing.

Diet

Blue Diamond Shrimp are primarily detritivores, feeding on algae, biofilm, and decaying organic matter. They will also scavenge leftover food in the tank. To maintain their vibrant blue colour, supplement their diet with high-quality shrimp pellets, algae wafers, and blanched vegetables like spinach or courgette.

Care

These shrimp require stable water conditions with a temperature range of 22°C to 28°C and a pH of 6.5 to 7.5. Regular water changes are essential for maintaining their health and vibrant colouration. Avoid using copper-based medications, as copper is toxic to shrimp.

Habitat

To create the perfect environment for your Blue Diamond Shrimp, use a soft substrate like sand or fine gravel. Adding live plants, driftwood, and rocks will provide surfaces for grazing and hiding. They prefer a low water current, so ensure your filtration system has a gentle flow.

Breeding

Breeding Blue Diamond Shrimp is relatively easy in an aquarium with stable conditions. Females carry their eggs under their abdomen until they hatch into tiny shrimp. These newborn shrimp are independent and will immediately start foraging on biofilm and detritus.
