Location

Bloody Mary shrimp are a selectively bred red form of Neocaridina davidi, whose wild ancestors come from streams in Taiwan and southern China. They thrive in clean, stable water conditions. In aquariums, they prefer environments that replicate their natural habitat, with clear water and plenty of surfaces for grazing.

Diet

Bloody Mary Red Shrimp are omnivores, feeding on algae, biofilm, and decaying organic material. They will also scavenge any leftover food in the tank. To maintain their bright red colouration, supplement their diet with high quality shrimp pellets, algae wafers, and occasional blanched vegetables such as spinach or courgette.

Care

These shrimp require stable water conditions, with a temperature range of 22°C to 28°C and a pH of 6.5 to 7.5. Regular water changes are essential for maintaining their health and vibrant colouration. Avoid medications containing copper, as copper is toxic to shrimp.

Habitat

To create an ideal environment for your Bloody Mary Red Shrimp, use a soft substrate like sand or fine gravel. Live plants, driftwood, and rocks provide surfaces for grazing and hiding. These shrimp prefer low water currents, so ensure your filtration system provides a gentle flow.

Breeding

Breeding Bloody Mary Red Shrimp is relatively straightforward when provided with optimal conditions. Females carry their eggs under their abdomen until they hatch into tiny shrimp, which immediately start foraging on biofilm and detritus.

We take care to ensure your order arrives in excellent condition and ready to settle into your aquarium. All orders are shipped with tracking, and the cut-off time for same-day dispatch is 4 pm.

Orders containing dry goods, shrimp, snails or plants are dispatched Monday to Friday via Royal Mail for fast, reliable delivery. Livestock, in particular live fish and invertebrates, are dispatched Monday to Wednesday only, using an approved overnight courier, to avoid weekend delays and ensure safe and timely delivery.

You will receive a tracking number by email when we begin processing your order for shipping. The selected courier will provide updates on delivery only through their tracking page.

During colder weather, heat packs are added when needed. Livestock orders are carefully packed in insulated boxes to help maintain a stable temperature throughout transit.
