Batman Snail is a popular freshwater nerite snail prized for its unique shell pattern, which resembles the silhouette of a bat. Our batman snails grow to around 2cm, and their bold appearance and efficient algae eating habits make them both a functional and decorative addition to freshwater aquariums.
Location
Native to Southeast Asia, the Batman Snail is commonly found in coastal rivers where fresh and brackish water meet. In the wild, they graze on algae covered rocks and submerged wood.
Diet
Batman Snails feed on soft green algae, diatoms, and biofilm. They help maintain clean tank surfaces by grazing continuously. For additional nutrition, offer algae wafers or blanched vegetables like courgette and spinach.
Care
They require clean, well oxygenated water with a temperature between 22 and 28°C and a pH of 7.0 to 8.2. Avoid treatments containing copper, as these can be harmful to snails. Make sure calcium is available in the water to support shell strength.
Habitat
Best suited for peaceful community tanks, Batman Snails thrive in planted aquariums with driftwood, rocks, and glass surfaces for grazing. A secure tank lid is important, as they may climb and escape if given the chance.
Breeding
Batman Snails won’t breed in freshwater aquariums, so they will never overrun your tank.
