Batik Snails are an eye-catching freshwater nerite snail known for their distinct and beautiful patterned shells. Our batik nerite snails grow to around 2cm and are perfect for aquarists looking to add a unique and functional addition to their tank while keeping it clean.
Location
Native to Southeast Asia, Batik Snails live in coastal rivers and streams. They are well suited to aquariums that replicate their natural habitat with stable water parameters and abundant surfaces for grazing.
Diet
Batik Snails are primarily herbivorous, feeding on algae, biofilm, and detritus. They are particularly useful for controlling algae growth on tank surfaces. Supplementing their diet with algae wafers or blanched vegetables like courgette can enhance their nutrition.
Care
These snails prefer water temperatures from 22 to 28°C and a pH of 7.0 to 8.0. They thrive in well maintained aquariums with stable water conditions and should be kept away from medications containing copper, which can harm snails.
Habitat
Batik Snails do best in tanks with fine sand or gravel substrates, as well as plants, rocks, and decorations that provide surfaces for grazing. They are also known to explore the vertical surfaces of the aquarium, so a secure tank lid is recommended to prevent escape.
Breeding
Batik Snails won’t breed in freshwater aquariums, so they will never overrun your tank.
