Batik Crab is a stunning and vibrant freshwater crab known for its striking colouration, with a mix of red, yellow and purple patterns that make it a true showstopper. Our freshwater crabs for sale measure around 4 to 5cm and are small but full of personality, making them great for aquarists looking to add colour and life to a paludarium.
Location
The Batik Crab comes from the humid tropical rainforests of Southeast Asia. They thrive in warm, humid environments with access to both land and water, so recreate this in your tank.
Diet
Batik Crabs are omnivores and enjoy a varied diet. They will gladly eat sinking pellets, frozen foods such as bloodworms and brine shrimp, and plant matter like algae and blanched vegetables. A balanced diet is key to their vibrant colour and overall health.
Care
Batik Crabs need a set up with both land and water areas, such as a paludarium of at least 75 litres with a humid environment, gentle filtration and plenty of hiding spots. Fit a tight fitting lid, as crabs are skilled climbers and escape artists. They are best kept on their own or with fast swimming fish, as they may catch small fish and shrimp.
Habitat
Batik Crabs thrive in environments with lots of hiding places, such as rocks, driftwood, and dense plants. A shallow water area combined with a land area they can climb out onto allows them to display their natural behaviour.
Breeding
Breeding crabs in captivity is rare but possible with the right conditions. Stable water, a balanced diet, and both land and water areas are essential for encouraging breeding.
