Rainbow Albino Red Fin Shark is a striking and active freshwater fish known for its vibrant red fins and pale pink, almost translucent body. Also called the albino rainbow shark, it grows to around 15cm, and its bold colouring and energetic swimming style make it an eye-catching addition to larger aquariums.
Location
The rainbow shark is native to the rivers of mainland Southeast Asia, where it lives over sandy and rocky river beds. The albino form is captive bred. In captivity, it requires a spacious tank with plenty of swimming space and clean water conditions.
Diet
This species is omnivorous, thriving on a diet of high quality sinking pellets, algae wafers, flakes, and occasional live or frozen foods like bloodworms and brine shrimp, along with some vegetable matter. A varied diet ensures their health and vibrant colouring.
Care
Albino Red Fin Sharks prefer stable water temperatures between 24 and 28°C. They thrive in clean, well oxygenated water and should be kept in a larger aquarium to accommodate their active swimming nature. Regular water changes are essential for keeping them healthy.
Keep one per tank. They become territorial as they grow and will chase their own kind and other similar shaped fish, including rainbow sharks and red tail sharks.
Habitat
These fish prefer aquariums with open swimming space, a dark substrate, and some driftwood, caves or rocks they can claim as their own. Keep them with active, mid to upper level fish that can hold their own, as their energetic nature can intimidate smaller or timid fish.
Breeding
Breeding Albino Red Fin Sharks is rarely achieved in home aquariums.
