How many corydoras should I keep together?
Keep at least six of the same species. Corydoras are social fish that feel stressed and hide away when kept alone or in pairs, but a group will forage together in the open.
What size tank do corydoras need?
Most corydoras catfish are happy in a tank of 60 litres or more with plenty of open floor space. Pygmy corydoras stay much smaller and suit well established nano tanks.
What substrate is best for corydoras?
Soft, smooth sand is best. Corydoras dig through the substrate with their sensitive barbels, and sharp or rough gravel can wear them down over time.
What water conditions do corydoras need?
Most species do well between 22 and 26°C with a pH of around 6.5 to 7.5 and clean, well filtered water. Sterbai corydoras prefer it a little warmer, at around 24 to 28°C.
What do corydoras eat?
Feed sinking pellets or wafers so food reaches them on the bottom, with frozen bloodworm as a treat. Corydoras will tidy up leftovers, but they cannot live on scraps alone. Browse our fish food.
What is the difference between panda and sterbai corydoras?
Panda corydoras are pale with a black eye patch and a black spot near the tail, while sterbai corydoras are dark and covered in white spots with bright orange front fins. Both are equally peaceful. Read our panda corydoras care guide for more.
Are corydoras good for beginners?
Yes. Hardy species such as Corydoras aeneus and peppered corydoras are a great choice once your tank has fully cycled. Our corydoras care guide covers the basics.
Can corydoras live with other fish?
Yes. They are peaceful community fish that mix well with tetras, rasboras, livebearers and shrimp. Keep them away from large or aggressive fish.
